It depends on your income, filing status, age, and whether you are claimed as a dependent. The IRS provides income thresholds to determine if you're required to file.

How do I check the status of my refund ?

Use the IRS "Where’s My Refund?" tool at irs.gov or the IRS2Go mobile app. You’ll need your SSN, filing status, and refund amount.

It depends on your situation:

File an amended return using Form 1040-X. You have up to 3 years from the original filing date or 2 years from the date you paid the tax, whichever is later.

How long should I keep my tax records

Generally, 3 years from the date you filed or the due date (whichever is later). Keep longer (up to 7 years) if you claimed losses or are self-employed.

What is the difference between a tax credit and a deduction ?

A deduction lowers your taxable income. A credit directly reduces your tax liability (better).
